About Vaginal Prolapse

Vaginal Prolapse is used to describe a condition when the pelvic organs (uterus, bowel, rectum, bladder, urethra and vagina) lose tissue and muscle support and drop from their normal position. Prolapse is associated with symptoms such as sensation of a lump or bulge in the vagina, constipation, incontinence and problems with sexual intercourse. It can often be uncomfortable, painful and cause symptoms that disrupt daily life.

Vaginal Prolapse is more common in women who have given birth due to stretching changes. It is also common in women experiencing menopause. The right treatment for you will depend on the type of prolapse you have, its severity, underlying cause, and if other medical problems are present.

Dr. Wilkie  has extensive experience with surgical procedures for correcting prolapse, including Minimally Invasive Surgical (MIS) techniques. He is dedicated to giving women the most up to date treatment options available. Prevention and other treatment options similar to those offered for Stress Incontinence may be useful, but correcting prolapse typically requires surgery.

The first step towards relief is to have an assessment. Prior to any procedures all patients are examined to ensure there are no underlying medical problems. A gynaecological exam  will be performed to evaluate your condition and assess what form of treatment is the right option for you. You will have the opportunity to discuss its risks and benefits. If surgery seems the best option, we will inform you about how to prepare for the surgery and what the expected postoperative (after surgery) course will be. Please visit our Patient Care Area.

Our Client Care Coordinator will look after your referral and appointment.

More Information on our procedures

...I also wanted to let you know how useful the Patient Care Area is on your website. Before my surgery I read through the information at home and discussed everything in detail with my husband. Even though you went over what I would expect and how to prepare for the surgery in your office, it was a really helpful to review everything at home. I forgot a few things that we had discussed together...
